Milky Beats Anthology

This was our first “record”, completed in 1999. It’s more a compilation of our best work during this long, chaotic period of time.

You can buy the album from iTunes. Neat!

From the original release notes:

“Original Recipe is Dean Williams [Quasimojo] and Steve Mason [in_tense]. This album represents nearly four years of collaborative work spanning thousands of miles, countless women, and a veritable cornucopia of equipment. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. We’re also currently working on a new EP which will be released sometime this year.

As usual, all material here is the intellectual property of Steve Mason and Dean Williams. While we encourage you to share our music with your friends, family, and pets, selling our music to anyone may result in taunting, general disdain, tooth decay, or us breaking your fucking knees open with a tire iron.”

And, because we’re so nice, you can preview the whole album here!

It’s that time of year again
The title of this track refers to autumn, when the leaves are falling and it starts to get chilly. We wrote this at the beginning of fall in Toronto, 1997.

Moe
Started off with some really great vocal samples that Dean’s friend Moe recorded onto his answer machine when he wasn’t home one day. Steve took the samples and put together this (now ridiculous sounding) anthem track.

Grasshopper
Also during fall/winter 1997, this started out in the living room of Ben and Ryan’s place in Etobicoke, where Steve was couch surfing at the time.

System What
Titular reference is to System 7, the goa/psych electronic outfit that used to make really pretty music back in the heydey of they late 90′s. We still really like this one.

misogyny
Before Dean’s first visit to NYC, I wrote this one. It was a bad time, and Steve was not liking women very much right at that moment.
